What is the ideal stroller like?

When traveling it is especially important to use the best stroller for the purpose. But what exactly is our purpose?

To see most of the city in a way that is not stressful for our child, so that he/she can rest comfortably any time. If we keep it in mind, we can stroll around the city even when it is naptime.

Reclining seat

This is one of the most important criteria as you cannot sleep comfortably sitting up and for children younger than 6 months using a stroller in a completely flat position is recommended healthwise.  

Big canopy

As we cannot keep to the daily routine that we are used to at home, we might be on the go in the midday sun, so a big canopy is extremely important. It shoud protect the child from the harmful sunbeams in the best possible way and it should provide sufficient shade. We know now that by attaching cloth diapers to the canopy to provide shade we do more harm than if we do not attach anything because the child can get a heatstroke under the cover.  

Puncture free wheels

Even though I prefer strollers with inflatable tires as they offer a less bumpy ride, I still like solid rubber tires for sightseeing. It can be very inconvenient to have a flat tire on the go as we have to try to find a bike shop in a strange city or we are left without a stroller.

Easy handling and maneuverabilty

It is important that we are able to turn around in one place when going into a restaurant or a shop or when taking the public transport, so the most practical strollers for this purpose are the ones with swivel wheels. Easy folding and opening and small weight can come handy too because we might have to lift the stroller up onto a bus with a sleeping child in it.

Storage

Those with children tend to take half the household even to the nearest grocer. A change of clothes, diapers, snacks, drinks, etc. If we travel, a camera and our own stuff are added so it is important to have a stroller that has a big storage basket.

Accessories

It can be a good idea to take a rain cover or a mesh cover with us so that we can stay on the go in a light rain or when night falls. These take up very little space and can come handy if a summer shower hits or when bugs come.
