Everybody knows that traveling with children is not easy. Sometimes parents just need a few days to spend together but to travel with children takes a big decision. Why? Maybe they won’t remember everything but they can learn a lot.
I know, my three-year-old son won’t remember the Colosseum in Rome or the Tower Bridge in London, but I’m sure his mind is more open to the new things now. He knows that a lot of languages exist on Earth, he can say “Buongiorno” and is not surprised if he sees an Asian child on the playground. He learned to behave patiently in an unexpected situation and he learnt to sleep well in a foreign apartment when his parents are there, too. So he won’t remember all the things we saw, but this way we could even ask ourselves why do we read books to our children, or why do we take them to the zoo? Because they can have experiences which develop them. Sure, travel doesn’t come for free, but what make it priceless are the learning opportunities and character shaping possibilities that it provides especially for young children.
So here are 3 reasons why I think that travel is not ‘wasted’ on young kids:
1. Travel could teach them to be more open minded to new things, new cultures and new people
Your child won’t speak multiple languages from one day to the next just because you have traveled a lot, but he or she can understand that different people speak different languages. Language is a great way to be able to relate to the world, know new cultures and new people. Travel with young kids means exposing them to and making them interested in geography, world maps and airplanes early on. They start to form a better understanding of their environment and the knowledge that there’s a big world out there.
2. The family can make new memories together
Everyday routine can be a bit boring, but when you travel as a family, you find new experiences in new situations. There are a lot of things which don’t look like your everyday routine. That’s why your children can remember the good things. How enjoyable traveling with kids is, ultimately has a lot to do with the mind-sets of the parents. Don’t expect perfection, plan for some hiccups along the way. Those will be the fun stories and anecdotes you will remember at the end of a trip.
3. Travel could teach them how to handle unexpected situations
There is no travel without unexpected situations. Your flight can be delayed or you could get lost in a strange city, but the most important thing is how you handle it. Don’t be too angry, because it scares little kids. Teach them how to handle different situations calmly and considerately.
Traveling allows children to be more adaptable to changing situations and be more flexible in their habits. It’s not easy but is definitely worth it. And Lottirose is here to help you! Don’t pack the full house, rent a stroller or a baby bath from our website!
